1. Holiday Route from Caen, France to Alicante, Spain

Caen to Southern Spain

     Recent suggestions to a friend:

Our route to Spain. We make use of the MICHELIN  Europe Tourist & Motoring Map book exclusively. see:

http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/gbr/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm

The MICHELIN  Europe Tourist & Motoring Map book will give road numbers for all the roads seen on the maps. Other map books will show the roads but not give the road number. This can be a hinderance if you take a wrong turning and get lost.

Caen to Alicante.

Map, Caen to Alicante

For Camp sites it is advisable to have the UK ‘Caravan Club’ Continental camp sites book. It’s possible to use the overnight stops in France & Spain, called ‘Aires’ We don’t feel secure on the Motorways, where break-ins have been recorded. So we always look for a camp site to overnight stop.

UK ‘Caravan Club’ Continental camp sites book is a hive of information regarding legal requirements for travelling on the continent and road advice. For example there is a section on passes in the mountains showing the information suitable for caravans or Motorhomes. The route here avoids the mountain passes.

Also note that on the Continent you will find all roads signs will give the Common Market number and the local number. For example the road from Burgos to Madrid will have the number A1 or E5 or E80, sometimes the signs will give the local number only or sometimes it will give the Common market number only. These anomalies will be found in France & Spain.

Take your mobile telephone with you, ask the telephone supplier to give you ‘Roamer’ facilities for the countries you are visiting. If you are using ‘Pay-as-you-go’ ensure you have enough credit for the trip. The last time we went I spent £160 on calls back home.

Important, before leaving remember to tell the vehicle insurance company the countries you visiting.
