1. Renovating Internal wash basin waste Pipe.

WASTE PIPE FROM THE KITCHEN SINK BASIN

While removing some items from the locker below the bed/lounger, I noticed a weeping of waste water which was also smelling, from the pipe to the kitchen sink.

I repaired it using Amalgamated tape. This tape when stretched around a pipe will weld to itself and give a robust repair. A 5 metre X 25mm roll cost me £4.00 [2005]Amalgamated tape for pipe sealing

I was told by a Caravan Mechanic that these pipes deteriorate and will split after a few years.

A complete pipe installation repair can be quite easily done by the DIY man. I purchased about 8 Metres of black flexible, SMOOTH bore 19mm inside diameter pipe for the repair.

By taking off the old pipe from the basin, mine was just pushed on! I then tied it to the new flexible pipe. I pulled the old pipe at convenient points inside the lockers to link up with the waste tank below the floor.flexible pipes attached while being pulled through the lockers

Between the bed/lounger and the kitchen locker there is a raised section which is covered by the carpet. This can be pulled back. There you will see the cables and waste pipe going through the run. Again the pipe can be pulled through at this point.Carpet covered pipe run also with electric cables

When the pipe reaches the waste tank, you will probably find the 'Jubilee' clips are rusted up. Using a 'Junior' hacksaw cut it off and remove the old pipe.

Before cutting to length and attaching the new pipe, secure the pipe with 'P' type cable clamps to the underside of the Motorhome floor.Image of the pipes into the Waste Tank

The pipe secured into the waste tank, in my Motorhome, to receive the flexible pipe, is quite robust and has a rather narrow aperture. This in turn slows the draining of the waste water from the sink. I enlarged this aperture with a suitable sized drill! This does reduce the pipe wall size so care must be taking not to reduce the wall too much and weaken it. Might be my imagination but the draining does seem to be faster.

The next job will be to renovate and install new piping from the shower/washroom basin. This does entail a lot more work, but will have to be done as the plastic in the flexible portion of the pipe is showing signs of splitting. I don't want this to happen behind the hidden portions!  See this page for further developments. It is not an easy job.
